TONIGHT: Monterey Town Hall Meeting

Moth Spraying Opponents Take Message To Shriver-CBS

IMPORTANT: Santa Clara County--A Few Volunteers Needed This Week! The CDFA plans to put twist ties on private property in five small areas of Santa Clara County on Monday. They claim that individual homeowners may refuse entry, but do residents know this? We have a plan to let them know, and we need about ten volunteers to make it happen! If you can help Thursday evening (that's tomorrow!) or this weekend, please contact Simi Sikka at simiksikka@hotmail.com immediately!

"Secretary of Food and Agriculture A.G. Kawamura vowed the state would appeal the ruling immediately. In a statement, he said the decision was delaying "the safest, most progressive eradication program available."

After meeting with lawmakers and environmentalists, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Thursday the state would postpone aerial sprays over the county
until Aug. 17, when further "acute testing" of the human health effects of a chemical sprayed over the central coast last year would be complete". By GARANCE BURKE The Bakersfield Californian

The most significant thing Secretary Kawamura said about the spray was even though the public does not like the aerial application, we should just tolerate it,” she said. “He also said this was our ‘big chance’ to show the world that pheromones can be used to eradicate pests. It’s clear to me, and disturbing as well, that an example is being made of this eradication effort, and it’s going to be used to move a plan forward that likely has a global scope.

650 DEAD BIRDS After 2007 Aerial Spray
California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) covers up CheckMate pesticide killing 650 birds after aerial spray in 2007. CDFG lab report

DEAD BIRD Disinfo. 1) CDFG "compared feather extracts to CheckMate -F", a product that was not used for aerial spray, and has determined that the birds did not die from "CheckMate -F", again, that was not used for aerial spray.
DEAD BIRD Disinfo 2) CDFG "analyzed samples for constituents of CheckMate -F and found none of the ACTIVE ingrediants". What about testing for the inert ingrediants like Tricaprylyl Methyl Ammonium Chloride? "According to SIMoN (Sanctuary Integrated Monitoring Network for the Monterey Bay) surfactants act like a detergent to reduce the waterproofing ability of feathers."
