July 30/31, 2009
CDFA's Environmental Impact Report will be released tomorrow 7/31/09 and to no surprise, they concluded that their LBAM eradication program including the aerial spraying that made so many sick and killed so many birds, had no negative impacts. Listen to 8 minute audio of the CDFA's statements about how great their program is.
----------2008------- The
USDA and the CDFA are both are calling for public comments/question for their
environmental impact reports. These reports assess the proposed actions that an
agency or corporation wants to take. In most cases these reports are completed
prior to the action proposed. However in the case of this aerial spraying, in
California the USDA and the CDFA had decided to spray first and then evaluate.
Part of this evaluation process calls for public
questions. The public question period is only open for 30 days. Both agencies
have, by no coincidence, opened the public comment period at the same time. The
CDFA had conducted a series of open house sessions to hear community comments
unlike the USDA. The announcement that the USDA had opened their public comment
period for their "Environmental Assessment" EA was buried in a 100-page
document.
These agencies are required to take into account and show
that they have addressed the concerns of the community. We must put in writing
our concerns about their actions and ask them questions. These agencies are required
by law to address your concerns.
We must submit questions / comments because
it will show that we are greatly opposed to this aerial spray operation and have
valid concerns.
Deadline to submit
questions / comments for the CDFA is March 20, 2008 EMAIL
